The unique trapezoidal shape equals the shape of the foot that gives a good grip and it is identifiable to people who have problems with their eye sights or backs.
The rough step area creates extra friction for a safer step even in wet conditions. This also reduces the amount of dirt or mud in the shoes that might end up in your car.
